Stewartsville CII School has been awarded $39,733 from Region D Recycling & Waste Management District for Stewartsville CII Athletic Facilities Improvements and Recycling Initiative.
Grant funds are made available for waste reduction and recycling projects from tipping fees collected at landfills in Missouri or transfer stations when trash is taken out of state. The fees are collected by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources Waste Management Program and distributed to the twenty solid waste districts located throughout the state. Region D Recycling & Waste Management District members are Andrew, Buchanan, Clinton and DeKalb Counties. There are 8 member cities as well.
The project will fund indoor and outdoor recycling collection containers, recycled aluminum bleachers for the softball and football fields, water bottle filling stations and reused turf for the batting cages.
The project demonstrates the full circle of recycling. Materials purchased with the grant funds are constructed with recycled materials, aluminum cans, milk jugs. The turf for the batting cage has been removed from a sports facility and available for reuse.
